El NEPCA

NEPCA (Nuevo Espacio Palmero Charco Azul) is the third private museum of the painter Alfredo Palmero and the only one that houses works exclusively by the Barcelona-born artist. It is a project with special symbolism, as in this case the name “Palmero” plays three different roles: it refers to the artist’s surname, the location of the museum, and his maternal Canary Islands heritage.

NEPCA is located in a former banana warehouse situated above Charco Azul, owned by the family. Although Alfredo Palmero was born in Barcelona, his family still maintains a close connection with the island of La Palma, where they continue to own banana plantations. With the artist’s desire to reclaim his Canary roots, the museum houses Imagina Guanches, a thematic collection rich in symbolism, traditions, legends, and mythology of Guanche culture, as a tribute to the painter’s origins.

The location of the former packing facility is unique and emblematic, bringing together all the elements that justify the development of this project. Its magnificent setting, Charco Azul, is a marvel of nature—a gift for both locals and visitors. At the same time, the packing facility symbolizes the island’s industrial activity, a space that needed to be preserved and repurposed for a lasting purpose, with a vision for growth and significance. Culture brought all these elements together, and painting became an ideal medium to achieve this. For this reason, Alfredo Palmero chose to preserve the industrial spirit of the space, respecting its essence, integrating it into its surroundings, and ultimately endowing it with meaningful content… art.
